Editor Deinocrat : Will you liave Ihe kiaduess to state lirough your paper if aay thing has cver een done toward securing the olü jai] square fora public park? A petition of two hundred names of our most iuüueii tial and prominent business men was socured at the cost of considerable time, as an expression of the general feeliüg in its favor. It was presented to the city fatliers with a hope that sonie definite action 'or or agalnat the project wouUl at once be taken. Bul Dstead of that it was ' referred to the general íuod connuitee," who seemcd to have tabooed the ubject altogether, o far as can be Been. Have they the riglit to re f use to recognize a petition in this way, and suiïer the vishesofthe people to be totally disre;arded without .so mucu as a replv? If tbey will do notuing about tlie park business, it must be secured private subfcription, for a park we nmst and m'l have, nol tbe old oemetery grounds eitber. It will not be belping matters much to get one so far away trom the central part of tbc city, f we bave ihc riglit to appropriate the grouod for Ihat parpóse, wbich is doubtful. If it is expected to go outside tbc city liraits, uo moic bcautiful place in tbe world can bo found tban tbe point of land already beautifuüy shadcd witb evergreens at tbe top of tbe bill on We&t Huron strect, owned by Mr. Urosiuanj Tbat spot can bc secured at a veiy reasonablc price, and will be a delightful resoit as it is easy of access and commands a view of tbc whole surroundiug country. It is to be hoped tbat before auotber year passes away some action in this matter will be taken.
