Th Towmhip of Northfield. Ainonn the early settlcrs of NoithfUld WAS O EO ROE SES8ION8, whocamewith his family to this township from Madison county New York, in Sepwmber, 1888 and purcbased six lots ut land ou sections 2 and 11. He was from oneof the oldest New England families, being a descendent of Samuel Sessions, who was a resident of Andover, Masa, in 1677. Guorge Scssions was bom in South Wilbraham, Mass., in 1784. His father eettled in Wilbraham soon after the close.of the revolntionary war and wa oneof the "Boston tea party," who threw overboard in Boston .harbor the tea from England on which a tax was de manded, and which was one of the im medíate causes of the revolntion. Ho married Eunice Mather, of Windsor, Conn., a very estimable woman and ii descendent of the noted Cottoo Mather, of Massachusetts colony. Mr. Sessions died aboul a year after he caine to Northfleld, leaving his widow and eight chililren who remained andcleared up mir f the best farms in the township. The I)e8t part of this farm is still owped by Hanson BeMioni, of Aun Arbor, the oldcst member of the family, J. Q. A. Scs sions of Ann Arbor, being the youngest. The other survivors are Mrs. Harriet A. Tracy, of Lansing, and Gcorgc D. Ses sions, of Van Buien county. Mis. Sessions died Sopt. lst, 1848. Mr. .1. Q. A. Seasions is a gradúate of the Michigan universitj', and is now a lawyer living in Ann Arbor. He has taken active interest in writing upa trae history of Wushtenaw county. Iu 1879 he read befora the historical society a grapliic history of the city of Ann Arbor. He servet! three years in the army during the tebellion and was lst Lieut. of compauy D. 7th regiment of Michigan cavalry. Tbis regiment wu a part of the brigade command61 by Oen. Custer. KDIUU Irou ore is found near tlte surfuce of the ground ou the farm of F. 8. Chapín, coveriog 15 or 20 acres of land ; also on land owned by Anson Whecler, on the old Keenan farm. The soil wliere tho cue; s found is of i yclliiwish huo. Specimens of ore have heen sent to the univcrsity for analysis. Mica is foucri on the lai in of John George Gerlach.
