All day Monday four dogs were playng on the shore ice whlch runs out into t lic tiver ïrom the Binger factory docking. At least three of the dogs were of the broed known as ketters. Between !3 and 4 o'clock in the afternoon sume of tin-; SingiT employés who work in the building facing the river, and who had notieed tlie dogs at different times tluoughout the day, were attracted by a gieat cominotion among thfin. ïhree of theni w.ererunninj; up and down the river along the edge of the Ice, luit the fourth one was missing. Directly one oí thedogswas soon to reach liis lie:ul in the water over the edge of the ice and grasp some object in his teeth and try to pull it out of the water. The object was the missing dog whlch had lallen or jumped into the river and was unable to get iijjon the lee again. The effort of the dog on the ice was also nnsuccessful, and he released his head, while all tlnee oí the dogs set up a brisk barking, varied occasionally by disinal howls. Finally, another effort was made to rescue their companion, ;ill the dogs joining in ït, but tlie slippery ice aiïorded them such poor foothold nul the distance iïom the ice down to the water was so far, that. aftei three or four trials, they gave it up. They then held a consultation with heads close together, and tvo of them started ofï up town, apparently to get help, while tlie third one laid liiinsi'ir down on the ice close to the edge, as if to keep guard over their companion who was paddling in the current for dear lifeand could just manage to keep his nose above the water. At this stage of the proceedings two u'Mi came to the rasene of the dog.
