The spring bas lees of brightness Every yeav; And the suow a ghastlier wliiteness Every year; Nor do Buminer flowersquicken, Nor autumn fruitage tlitekeu, As they once did- for thtty Bicken Every year. It ia growing darker, colder, Every year; As the heart and soul grow older Every year; I care not for dancing, Or for eyes with passion glancing, Love is loss and lesa entraucing Every year. Of the loves and serrowu blended, Every year; Of the charme of fnendship ended, Every year: Of the ties tbat still might bind me, Until Time to Death reeign me, My in&rmitiee remind uie, Every year. Ah! liow sad to look bef ore us, Every year; Wbile the cloud grows darker o'er us, Every year; When the blossoms ure faded, That to bloom, we migbt have aided, And immortal garlands braided, Every year. To the past go more dttad faces, Every year; As tbe loved leave racant places, Everyyear; Every where the sad eyes meet u, In the coming dusk tbey great us, And to come to tliem entreat us, Every year. "You are growing old," they teil us Every year; "You are more alone," they teil us Every year; "You eau win no new aftectlon, You have only recollection, Deeper eorrow and dejection Every year." Yes! the shores of life are shiftiai; Everyyear; And we are seaward ihifting Evtry year; Uld places changing fret u, The living more forget us. Tlmre are fewer to regret us Every year. Uut the truer life draws nigher Every year; Aud its morning star climbs bigher Every year; Earth's hold on us grows slighter, And the heavy burden Hghter, And the dawn immortal Drighter Every year.
