The peouliarities of day and night n Sweden strike the traveler very forr jibly, after being aceustomed to the ;emperate zones. In June, the sun joes down in Stockholm a little before ;en o'clock. There is a great illuminition at night, as the sun passes round Lhe earth toward the north pole; and the refraction of its rays is such that ou can see to read at midnigkt withDut an artificial light. There is a mountain at the head of Bothnia wbere, on the 21st of June, tho sun does not appear to go down at all. The steamboat goes up from Stockholm for the purpose of conveying those who are curious to witness the phenomenon. It occurs only one night. The aun reaches the horizon, yon can see the whole face of it, and in flve minutes moreit begins to rise. At the North Cape, latitude sevenfcy-two degrees, the sun does not go down for severa! weeks. In June, it win be a bout iweiity-tive aegrees above the horizoi at midnight. In the winter, the sun disappears and is not seen for weeks; then it romes and remaina for ten or flfteen minutes, after whick it deacends, and finally is rot set at all, but rnakes a circle round toe heavens. The Swedes ars very industrious, and labor is reckoned by the hour, twelve hours being reckoned a day'a work. Birds and animal take their accustomed rest at the usual hour, whether the sun goes down or not.
