The New York B%Lg córrespondnt u oo. petersburg telegraphs that Arctic stations will be established by the states taking part in the enterprise projeeted by the international polar eommission, as follows: 1 Austria- One station at Jan Mayen island. 2. England- Ore station at Fort Simpson. 3. Germany _Two stations, one on the gulf of Grgia, theother at aplace aotyetdec5 upon jn the región of ;he nortl pole. lenmark - One station on the vest'jrn coa9t of Greenland. ' j. Norway - One station at Altenard, in the province of Finnmark. 6. Russia - One station at the mouth of the Lena. 7. The United States - Two stations, one at Point Barrow, on the east of Behring Strait,the other at Lady Frank lin bay, Greenland;the latteris already in operation. 8. France - One station at Spitzbergen. ïheve are niue otlier stations n the Arctic región and two in the Antarctic región. There is every reason to believe that there will be one or even two additional Arcüc stations. These may swell the list of persons engaged to over 200, all taking active part in this enterprise, which will cost altogethe'r upward of a million rubies. The Russian expedition for the Lena, which lelt St. Petersburg on the .28th of December, will undertake the heavier part of the woik, as it will have to travel about 10,000 versts (6,630 miles) and establish itsfilf in au exceptionally cokl región al the ïnoutu oí' the Lena, where in January the average temperature is tO degreea below zero.
