The New Chief

John B. Nowland, the new.cbief of police of this city, was born June 18, 1826. He was the flrst white child boru in Ann Arbor. In 1849 he went to California. He woiked in the mines two years, and fetling signs of coming sickness, hastened back home. He was quite successful in his western trip, and af ter bis arrival in this county, purcliased a splendid farm in Scio, where he lived for 22 years. Mr. Nowland is well knowu throughout the county and will makc a good and efficiënt offlcer.
