The earliest records we have of the Celtic race give the harp a prominent place and harpists peculiar veneration dnd distinction. It was common to the northern races of Europe in the earlier centuries of the Christian era, and in .he opiniĆ³n of many antiqu&rians was original among theni. The Iiish harp was ofteii an hereditary instrument, to je preserved with great care, and veneration, and used by the bards of the family, alike the poet-musician and historian. It was long ago adopted by ;he Irish as a national emblem.
