The gentleman, unable to account ior this agreeable surprise, íollowed the young lady, and tapiño- her by the arm, asked for an explan atfon oí her strange procedure. "I beg a thousand pardons,' was the reply oí the blushing darnsel; "you must be greatly shoeked at my bchavior. I had been to consult a 'wlse woman as to the best means of charming away the frrckles on my face, and she advised me to kiss the ürst gentleman I met, whcn they wonld be sure to disappcar 1 he eouple contiuued their walk together, and thouo-h we are not told whether the sino-ular remody proved efficacioiis or not it may interest the reader to learn thát, not many days afterwards, the two were joined together for better or tor worse.
