Poverty
Some bear it heavily, lamenting over its deprivations, fretting about ite petty cares and dilating so much upon its misfortune that they have no energy lelt to cast it off. Others bear it cheenully, submitting quietly to its pressure while there, but resolving to lift it ofí íf mdustrv, patience and courage can do it. Reverses in Business, ïuss ui uu! eruelty of íoes, the injustice oí oppression, the crime and suffering around us -these and many other calamities are burdens that must at times be borne, but some will bear them with a feeble and hopeless spirit and loud lamentations whilc others will bear them firmly, silently, courageously. To the former they prove resistless weights, prcssing them down to the earth with sullen forcé; to the latter tiicy are means of developing strength, energy and mil- burdens that time will diminish and mtelligence may dissipate.
