Here is a skating costume which will serve as a model from which to fashion others. The material a dark blue lady's cloth, withtrimimng of deep red velvet. The skirtis made rather short and quite full. Six inches from the bottom is a wide band of bias velvet, and this is the onh' ornament on the skirt. The basque, or rather waist is made plain and tightfitting, and a wide beltofvelvet is wornj The sleeves are very long and tight, and the buttons are medium size of cut steel. The outside garment is made in the form of a half-fitting long jacket, warmly lined with quilted satin of the shade corresponding to the velvet, and velvet forms the deep collar and ouffs and the lapels, of the side pockets, and the small breast-pocket high on the left side. A doublé row of large cut-steel buttons, ornamented the front oí the jacket, and the cuffs and pockets are trimmed in the same way. A scarf of red silk is worn close around the throat witn me enas uickcu in me jacKet m front, forming a full puff. The cap is a Tam O'Shanter of red velvet with a silk tassel hanging from the top, and is worn forward ana just tipped a mere trille to.one side, giving a jaunty and pretty appearance. Long mittens knit of silk the same shade as the velret, with fancy backs, are worn, tho wriste drawn high under the sleeves of the jacket and over the sleeves of the dress. The whole costume is exceedingly neat and pretty, with no long ends flying to impede the progress and get ia other people's way. In these days of rollerskates the older and pleasanter pastime of skating on iee is almost lost sight of, in the large cities at least, ana only those who are fortúnate enough to live in smaller places can indulge in the sport in the old and most enjoyable manncr. Braided suits are still popular, but less so than they promised to be at the commencement of the season, when we were threatened with an actual deluge of them. They are, however, exceedinply sylish and very appropriate for young girls' wear. "Women ought to take more cxerciee in the open air," says a medical authority.
