At a largo hotel the not uncommon dilemma of there being only one room in the house vacant wlieu two viaitors required accommodadion for the night. It was & double-bedded chamber, or was soon converted into such,and the guestB, who wore both commercial travel - ers, agreed to sharo it. One of these gentlemen was a confirmad hypochondriac, and greatly alarmed his companion by waking him np in the middle of tho night gasping for breath. "Aethma,"hepanted out; "I am subject to the spasmodie attacks ! Open the window quickly; givenioair!" Terrifled beyond moaBure, the other jumped out of bed. But the room was piteh dark, he had no matches, and he had forgotten the position of the wimlow. After a while both feil asleep again, devoutly thankful for the result It was a warm summer night, and they feit no iuconvenience f rom the brolton window ; but, when daylight relieved the pitchy darknesa of tho night, the window waB found to be still entire. Had invisible glaziers been at work already, or was the episode of the past night only a dream? No; for the floor was still ttrewn with the broken glass. Then, as they looked round the room in amazement, the sofution of the mystery presented ltself in the shape of an antiqwated book case the latticed glas9 doors of whioh were a shattored wreek.
