Yield of oorn in Livingston County,lS81. .(,983.522 Yield of eorn in Logan Jounty, 188' 5,070,921 Livingston over Logan , 1,902,598 In other words. Logan (Jounty has raised near ly as much corn on 140,859 acres as Livingston county has on 208,597 acres. Rit it in another 'onn, the farmers in Livingston County have been obliged to plow nearly doublé the aereage of land (2fi8,S97), and have raised but a very small percentage of increase of corn over their iretbern in Logan County. who only had to plow 140,8-VJ acres. Let us give it auotlier twist! A A farmer who has his land well tilled need only work eighty acres of land and grow just about as mueh corn as the man who plows 10i and kes all the risks of drouth and much bendes, t is not fair, then. to conclude that the greatest abor-saving machine to-day of the age is the tile lrain? From the same source of information I jatner the following as regards the progress of -ile-drainage in these fcwo counties: Feet. Total number of feet laid in Livingston Countv up to 18S1 1,140,793 tal number of feet laid in Logan County up to 1881 3,989,469 This table proves beyond all theory that owlag o the free use of tile tliat one county has lt't'n ible to produce nearly as much corn on 140.IHX) icres of land as another county has produced pon iïöK,000 acres, which is nearly doublé, and l.e beauty of the whole is that it was done with alf the work! Mr. Editor, suppose a kind Frovience should lengthen out the spin of our days ntil we saw Illinois tnorouglily tile-drained, iiere would be put the corn that this State 'ould produce, and what would we do with our silver dollars' Samuel T.
