The campus is now in flret clase eondition. Only flve weeks more nntil comencément. Chas. Bush, dent '85, spent Sunday in Detroit. J. H. Kinnane, law '84, was in the city last week. Prof. Wells spent laat week in Washington, D . C. Burt Miller, lit '83, was in the city over Sunday. For once field-day was favored with fine weather. C L. Arner, lit '88, spent Sunday in Adrián, Mich. The prevailing hot weather maken work less agreeable. A (roshnien lits' prayer meeting was beid last Monday eyening. Will R. Payne, lit '87, is in the city on an extended visit with his parents. James Crawford, law '86, left last week for a second tour to New Orloans. Last Saturday's meeting of the engineering society, was the last for this year. A. J. Covell, lit '87, spent the latter part of last week at home in Napoleon, Mich. Joe. B. MacMahon, lit '87, spent Saturday and Sunday at his home in Manchester. Miss Nellie Borland, lit '85, spent a few days of last week at her home in Imlay City. The senior lits held a class-meeting Saturday, tn which nothing of importance was done. C. J. Scroggs, lit '84, now of the Cincinnati law school, will spend commencement week in the city . The lits of '88, hold their class supper at Hangsterfer's, this evening. It promises to be an elegant affair. On field-day the freshmen lits beat the sophs at base ball by a score of 13 to 11. But tive innings were played. Prof. H. W. Rogere, of the law dep't, will soon treat the medies to a few loc tures on medical jurisprudence. Last Sunday's meeting of the Christian association was a students' meeting. The topic discuBsed was " Missions." The class treasurer for the senior lits, reports that he is having a hard time to get the boy9 to pay their class tas. The art gallery in the general library building is open for visitors Mondays, Wednesday and Saturday s, f rom 2 to 4 p. m. A delegation from the Toledo, O., industrial school spent Friday in the city on a visit to the different departments of the univereity. The essay which M. O. Graves, lit '87, read to the class in rhetoric, was all in rhyme, and an excellent piece of work in every respect. A. F. Hangsterfer bas secured the contract for catering for the alumni dinner. Seven hundred participan ts are expected. It is to be held at the rink. Why was the senior lits' class meeting held while field day was in progresa ? Would not 7 p. m. be en as well as 10 a. m. for the meeting to have been held ? At the meeting ex lied Saturday moraing for the election of four Chromcle editora, there was no quorum present and the election was postponed for one week. The Phi Delta Phi fratemity held their annual banquet last Friday evening, at the Detroit club house in that city. It is Huid to have been a splendid afiair. The dates for the meeting of the state inter-collegiate literary association has been postponed to May 28 and 29. The public exercises will be held in university hall, May 29. The university glee club made their debut last Friday evening, in Ypsilanti. Their songs received hearty encores, and the large audience seemed fairly delighted with their singing. A number of Ann Arborites went to Ypsilanti, last Friday evening, to attend the concert at the First Baptist church, where the university glee club appeared in public for the first time. Mrs. Stowell, last Saturday evening read a paper on "Opportunities offered for Post-graduate Study at the University of Michigan," befo re the western association of collegiate alumnae, at Chicago In the library and other buildings on the campus, are placarded requests that diploma f ees be paid at once. It is jnst possible that seniora would like fo know whether they are to gradúate or not, before paying out their good money for diploma fees. - Argonaut. On Wedeesday morning last the engineere started for their four weeks' encampment. The party numbered about 18, and is composed of sophomores and junio. They left Detroit via steamer for Mackinac, where they will stop one day and then proceed to their destination- Frankfort, near Manistee, Mich. The senior lits' invitation committee announce that all addresses, to wnich invitatiuns are to be sent, as well as all orders for extra invitations, must be in the committee's hands before to-morrow, May 23 Every member of the class is entitled to five invitations, extra copies to be paid for at the rate of 12% cents per copy. ■v " The Serious Family," as presented at the opera house, Friday evening, was a Buccess. The actora all did exceedingly well, Miss Qarrigues and Mr. Lee being especially praiseworthy. The performance reflected great credit on Prof. DePont, whose ability as a theatrioal manager was thus again made evident. The performance netted about $100 for the ladies' library association. Lee, law '86, 2 min. 40 sec; fast bicycle race (one half mile), K. M. Lee, 2 min . 1% sec . ; lightweight wrestling, J. C. Anthony, medie '86; lightweight boxing, F. H. Kress, medio '86; heavyweight boxing, C. N. Banks, kt '87; 100-yard dash, F. N. Bonine, 1Q% sec.; 80 rod run, F. N. Bonine, 52 sec. ; high jump, L. G. Carpenter, law '85; heavyweight wrestling, H. G. Prettyman, lit '85. Prof. Preacott was out of town last Friday. Treasurer Harry Soule wan out of town, last Tuesday. John Otte, medie '86, spent the past week in Grand Bapids. P. B. Lundy, dent '85, will hang out bis shingle at South Lyon. The Phi Chi society will give a banquet and hop oue week from to-mght. T. J. Peach, lit '83, spent Saturday and Siindny with friends in Manchester. Dr. Wilson now flrmly believes that he will be able to resume his work next fall. Dr. Bonine of Niles, Mich., paid his 'son, Fred N., modic '86, a visit, last Satday. The homeopathie hospital faculty sat for a group pioture, last Friday afternoon. The ü. of M. alumni in Minneapolis Mimi., will hold a reunión and a banquet soon. The usual number of book agents are in town trying to enlist the boys for next slimmer. The number of nbsentees at the lectures in the medical department, in creases daily. The freshmen medies had an excellent negative taken at Lewis & Gibson's, last Friday morning. Mrs. Whitley of Coldwater, spent the past week in this city with her daughter, Laura Whitley, lit '88. Rev. A. W. Stalker, lit '84, of Dixboro" and Miss Mary Hendrickson of this city, were mar ried last Wednesday evening. A number of the senior phamics will, to-morrow, go to Detroit to visit the chemical laboratory of Parke, Davis & Oo. Prof. Cowperthwaite tinishes his lectures this week, and will leave for the west, whence he will return about commencement time. Profs. übetz, Allen and Baldwin spent Tuesday in East Suginaw in attendance at the ltitli anniversary and annual session of the Michigan homeopathie medical society. Prof. Obetz read a papei on " Sarcoma in the región of the knee joint."
