The following extract from a letter from Senator Sljerman on full reciprocity between Canada and the United States appeared In Oanadiau papers recently: "No question of greáter importance n onr f oreigj) relations is nowpresented tlian I this. It certainly is the object and desire to remove all exUting controversles and eneonrage business and commercial inlercourse bt tween the people of both conntries. As to tlie particular mensure proposed liy Mr. liuüenvorth, or indeed, as tu the extent whlch reciproclty should go and artieles should be admitted freo of duty in the respective countries, I do not feel jutiiicd now in expressing an opinión tor these must be subject to negotlation between, and legislation by the two countrles. I can only say that the general object souj;ht seems to be one of the highest impDitance, credltable alike to both cótintrles, and whlch will receive my careful and friendly consideration iluiing the yomlng summcr. It would be discreditaiile in the highest degree for two countries having so many interests in common and natural ties of tïiendshipand aniity to have any irritation or controversy about thuir trade and intercourse willi each other.
