The latest scheme talked of is a boulevard on Twelfth street, connecting with the nver road. It wonld oertainly make a delightful drive. If we are to have that park wky is not something being done towards it. The oíd cemetery will make a delightful on e, as it has so many natural advantages. It seems to me that the sidewalK committee is dreadfully elow in oondemning mauy of the sidewalks. In some places it is really dangerous to walk npon them so many loóse boards and holes for the unwary to be tripped np in. I have been informed by those competent to know, that the saloons were closed all day Sunday. It is evident that the oity authonties are determined the laws shall be striotly enforced. In this they will be backed by all order loving people. I confess I was disgusted at the rowyïsm of several persons who attended the entertainment in the opera house Monday evening, on the occasion of the presentation of the "Farmers Daughter." Such disrespect shown an audience and company is rarely witnessed outeide of this city, and for the good name of the place it should never be tolerated at another entertainment. The Manchester comnion council has passed a resolution that all dogs running at large within the corporate limits of that village, within a certain time, shall be properly muzzled, and every dog running at large is ordered killed. Thia is another ordmance whioh our city fathers should consider. The hundreds of worthless, useless curs upon our streets are nuisances and should bo gotten rid of. As I was passing down Detroit street to the depot the other day man's inhumanity to dumb animáis might have been seen. Attached to a baggage wagon was a norse and mule and the team was being most shamefully abused by the driver who whipped them every jump they made, over the head and ears, over their backs, and on their ilanks, and I said to myself, give us a bociety for the prevention of cruelty to animáis. With our system of water-works why cannot a company be formed for the building of sewers, if the oity cannot afford it. They are certainly becoming indispensable with other improvements made and are really needed. This is something to be thought of, and that seriously, not only for the beauty of the city but for the health i of it. Many unpleasant nuisances could be done away with, by a perfeot system of sewerage. In looking over some exohanges I see the Ludington officials have ordered all small boys to be off f rom the streets by eight p. m. It would be a good idea if our officers would pass a like ordinance in our city as our streets are overrun by the small boys at night who ought to be at home and many of them in their beus. It is a bad plan to allow boys away from home at night, and why parents will allow it, I cannot understand. I am pleased to know that the board of health are doing good work in compelling people to olean up around their places, out buildings, etc. I was informed Monday by a member of the board of a citizen who made complaint against a neighbor of a nuisance on his place, when a greater one was found on the informer's premiseB. And they were served alike, complaints being made against both of them by the board of health man, and the papers were eerved on them the same day. The new depot which is to be erected by the T. A. A. & N. M. R. R, ia an assured thing. It certainly is greatly needed as the old one is a disgrace to the company. The plans for the new struoture have been submitted and approved, the building to be of stone and 28 by 7( feet. This will be au ornament, anc there will be no city on the line of the Michigan Central or Toledo roads which can boast of flner accommodations for the traveling public. We are indeed fast becoming a metropolitan city. It is a pity that we cannot have our officers scattered about the city during the night, as they might quiet the dis turbances which are often made by boys and girls . I think if people are on the streeta during the late hours of night they might have the decency to go quietly about their own business am not scream, laugh or knock tin cans around and disturb those who are sleep ing or trying to sleep. They certainly ought to have some consideration an respect for others, if they have none fo themselves. In walkinfe about the city m y atten tion has been called in a number of in stances to the damage being done by the small boy and his sling shot. Here an there could be seen windows that have been broken in warehouses, and other buildings, and in the fourth ward the owner of the old dry house at the foo of State street has been compelled to pu shutters up at the windows to preven more panes of glass being broken. Why does not the council pass an ordin anee against the use of the sling shot anc thus abate an intolerable nuisance. Aün Arbor looks perfeotly charming in lts fresh spring suit, and where can we find a pleasanter place to dweil in particularly during the summer months than our own beautiful city. Now witl rnilroad connection with Whitmore Lake where we can so readily go anc come; with the raging Huron, where we can spend a day, rowing or tishing; the beautiful woods to roam in; the fine roads to drive upon; the scenery ove the hills to enjoy only an hour and a half s rile to two large cities, Detroit and Toledo, and the many adyantage we have in other ways makeB Ann Arbo a very desirable place. I understand there has been some tal kicking on the part of a number o wealthy oitizens, on account of the ao tion of the board of review wherein th assessments against them have been raised correspondiüg to their means No doubt it would be the i correct plan for the board of super visors to pass a resolution instructin the register of deeds to draw off a list o those persons who have mortgages o file in his office. I have al ways heli that the taxes fall mostly on the forme class, while the rich men escapej Poor men have righta which the rich should be made to respect, and I am pleasei to know that the board of review which has jast completed their labors have performed their work faithfully and well.
