Mosoow, Hillsdale conuty, has Bn orgauization called " The Soiib of Rest." Ño member is allowed to perforan any unnecessai y labor under penalty of a two vut fine. Oue persou has a tually beeu riued under this rule. The membership is large aud would be larger excepl that a considerable number of Mossowiaus, otherwise eligible, are too tirtd to jom. - Adrián Press The above reminds us of a similar or,'Hiiiziitiuii, but known as "Tlie Kuights of Kest," thüt held meetiuys penodically ia this city, something like a year ago. Of late their doins have been conducted in executive session. Ata recent election of officera the presidency was givpn to Jno. Thompson, and the way he haudles tlio gavel on the nights of initiation, tnakes the veterans squirm. Tliero is a collection agency in the country, extending to various towns, which aínas to collect bad debts. Every thing is a ''bad debt" which is unpaid, uo matter what the circumstances. For the chronio dead beat, the matter mar be well enough for he does not care what steps are taken to collect, since tliey will result in failure. But we think the nieans employed are not judicious or wise. A letter is sent to the debtor advising him to pay the claim. This is tollowed with a large envelope labled "Bad Debts" in big letters. Then a man comes to a place and drives round in a wagon on which is painted "Bad Debt Collector.' He hitches his horse m front of the house goes in and presents his bilí. He takes a great deal of time hitcliiug and untying his horse. Tiie object is to publicly brand the visited party as a dead beat. One of these daya a bad debt collector will come away with a bad eye. His face will ezpress his success. He will have a "head on him" that will nee 1 to gointo a surgeon'i boudoir for repairs. We have uo words sufficiently strong to expreBS our oontempt of such metliods. Dead beats are not harmed, and many unfortunata poor pertons are wronged. We hope to see the driver of such a wagon promptly tlred and the wagon made ready for mending. No person has a legal right to let bis wagon stand for a moment in front of another's premises aud if a bad debt collector gets a big club over his head, we shall be only too g'.ad to record it. We hate a dishonest dead Deat, but we hate these public publications cf private business, where so great an opportunity offers to do injusticè to many poor people. We don't believe in this kind of debt colleoting. We hope to see it promptly knocked out, and advite every body, genuine dead beat or not, never to pay a debt, eent for
