The court condemns arbitrary arrests as for breacbes of the peace. and decide that uuusual and excessive penaltios can uut be enforced. The court decides that local bodies cannot reject bond-rnen at discretion. The obJHctious pointed out, however, do not destroy the statue, and with the exceptions above noted, the law may bo enforcad. The court says Chat Detroit cannot pólice the adjoining townships in order to eniorce the law. _ Blowu to l'ieces. A frightful accident happened at the Cleveland mine in Ishpeining the other morning. The tmiien wore blasting out a diamond drill hole at the bottom uf No. 2 shaft, using tiynamito for the purpose, hen the charge weut off prematurely, mangling the fivu men out of human semblance and killing them instan tly. It is not known just how the accident was caused, but it is supposed that the explosives were ignited by the heat of a gas pipe which was charged with it, aud which had been heated and straightened in the blacksmith shop just bef o re being used. I'rohibition State Convention. The state convention of the prohibition party will be held at Power's opera house, in the city of Grand Rapids, at 10 a. m.. Wednesday, May lü, 1S8S, for the purpose of electing delegates to the national convention, the eiection of the state central committee and the transaction of sucu otber business as may properly come beforo the convention. Murder in MewaygfO. Wenzel Matzka, a French cook at Ryerson & Hali's camp, three miles north of Newaygo, fatally stabbed John PulT, a f ello w employé. Pulf was plaguing Matzka.
