General Master W orkman Fowaerly has issued a lengthy circular addressed to all assemblies o( the Kuights of Labor. Referring to the experience gained from the recent strikes he snys . "What combinatiou of hungry men eould battle ugainst a combination of dollars? When a workman ceases to earn bis Btomaeh'8 want, and unless charity i given, he will starve. l.ay a gold dollar away on the shelf and let it íay for a year or decade, and there it is, as bright and useful as ever. 't has lost nothing from idleness. The dollar is supreme. We must control the dollar, curb th power oí money, and kill the trusts, or they will extort tlie last cetu from labor and kill the people. wo must have legislntion wbieh will compel individuals and corporations to transact business on a basis of real property dollars and cents, instead of what the world calis paper credits or fictitiou values. How can this be doneí By whom will it lm done ' It has been demonstrated that the order will not support strikes. Will it now uiake an efTort to place the real issues on which we ba-e our claim to recognition bofore the people' Will a vigorous poliey of educational work le sustainedí Through some singular oversiíht the general assembly never established an educational fund. Will our members consent to establish sueh a Cund by contributing ten, fifteen or twentv cents apiece If so, a number of good, competent speakers can be sont at once through the order to edúcate and instruct in the principies on which the order i based. Put the following questions before each assembly and givo me your answer - yes or no- as quicicly as it can be done: 1. Does your .issembly believe in entering at once upon an active educational campaign? 2. I)o you believo we should send out good, competent brothers to teach the principies of the order 3. ttliall tho general mastor workman levy au assessment ( three cents per capita to dofray the expenses of leoturers? 4. W ill the gem-ral mastor woi'ktnan bo sustained in enfoi-cing discipline in all departments ot the order! If the voto on these propositions is in the aHirmative. the general master workmnn pledges himself ti a work for the or der sueh as never hns been done before.
