Stained oak furniture can be thorjughly cleaned and all spots removed y washing wlth a ltttle hot beer. terwards pollsh with furniture cream n the usual way. Thls Is a hint worth remembering by those who travel much, and who do not carry about a eupply of rugs. A waterproof blacking la made by mixing sixty parts of bone black lnto forty-flve of syrup, whlch must be dlluted wlth twelve parts of fltrong vlnegar, then gradually add twelve part3 of snlphuric acid.
