New York, Oot. 23.- A disastrous flro occurred in Brooklyn last night whieh resulted iu the loss of one life, the of several persons and the destruction of property araounting to about $250,000. ïlie flve-story brick factory building situated on Ssventh sireet, between Second and Third avenues, was totally destroyed. A large quantity of paints and oils and other inflammable material was stored in the building, and it is believed the fire originated in thls aection. In a very few minutes the entire structure was ablaze. It was shortly after the flre began that Alfred Beaumon, a flreman attached to engine No. 39, wlth the assistance of Forenian Bixby and Fireman Quigley, wascarrying a hose through the extensión when they were caught in a back draught. Bixby and Quigley managed to galn the street, but Beaumon was unable to do so. A rescuing party consisttng of James J. Ryan, asslstant foreman of truck No. 1, and Franklin Furguson and Louis Blair, of engine company No 5, attempted to mnkfl thelr way through the burning ruins. They were all seve.-ely burned, but managed to reach Beaumon, who, however, had been burned to death.
