A largo outlet ditch or eauul is easily injured by the depoaition oí silt from the niouths of laterals, whether opeo ditohes or tile. Not only is the fall of the diteh injured by the earth, bnt weeds grow readily when tho ditch is erapty and act as nets to catch much refuse 'material dnring high water whieh woulil otherwise be washed out. To prevent washing from tile laterals, inolose the last huif dozen or dozeu tile in a rectangular box made of boiuds which correspond in width to the outside diameter of the tile. A similar arrangement can be used for open ditch laterals. These board boxes will last for a nuinber of years if made of hard wood.
