Died, at bis home in this city, early Tuesday morning, Waller Phelps Beach, aged nearly 75 years. Mr. Bt-ach was born in Hartford, Conn., Jan. 21, 1822. Rein? of a venturesome spirit he early went to sea, and followed the 1 i fe of a sailor with few interruptions until 1845, whenhewas married to Miss Man ha Stacey. During this time he made six trips around the world in sailing vessels, and was wrecked off the south coast of Cuba, where the vessel was lost though the crew were .aved. In 1845 Mr. Beach carne to Michigan and engaged in merchandising in Lapeer county. In 18n3 he sold out his business and enlisted in the war. He raised Company F, 1' th Michigan Infantry, of which company he was made captain. In 1865 he carne to Ypsilanti and purchased a residence on Summit st. engaging in the fire insurance business in Detroit, continuing in this oecupation till 1889, when he entered into the insurance business in this city with his son in law. Frank Joslyn, whom he bought out later on. In June, 1891, he was elected Justice of tke Peace for the second district. He has held many offices of trust, being sheriff of Lapeer for two years: Dejiüty United States Marshall under Knox; was a Knight Templar í)f the Detroit Commandery, and a charter member of the masons at Aimönt. Mr. Beach was married a seeond time in April, 1876, to Miss Marie Skinner of Hartford, Conn , who survives him with the following children: Mrs. Fiank Joslyn, Mrs. F. C. Oberst, Mrs. W. A. Burt, Mrs. D. P. Sullivan.George S. Beach, Walter Beach and Wm. W. Beach Funeral services were held ïhursday at 2:30 r. m. at St. Luke's church. The family have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their aftliction.
