Saginaw, Mích., Feb. 1.- Ed Cowles, lumber statistician, has compiled a statement showing the Michigan lumber and shingle output in 1896. The statement shows the state produced 2,166.252,982 feet of lumber and 941,527,200 shingles. At the close oí the year there : was in the hands of manufacturera 1,140,310,185 feet of lumber and 208,316,600 shingles. The Michigan output, last year, as compared with 1895 shows a decrease of 565,000,000 feet, and a decrease of 1,565,000,000 feet as compared with the output of 1892. At the close of the manufacturing season there was on hand only 12,000,000 feet less than the quantity on hand at the close of 1895, although there was a falling off In production as stated, of nearly 600,000,000 feet. These figures illustrate the congestión of the lumber trade last year.
