Leavenworth, Kan., Feb. 3.- Ex-Covernor Morrill, formerly a soldiers' home manager, testified that he made the contracts for introducing the Keeley cure at the home, and that he considered Governor Smith a good officer and that he treated the veterans kindly. Governor Morrill was subjeeted to a severe cross-examination and admitted that his late business partners and other friends had taken the Keeley cure privately while they stopped at Governor Smith's residence, and that they did not pay for the treatment so far as he knevv. He was questioned about the transferring of soldiers' home funds from another bank to the one of which he was president a few days after he was appointed a home manager. Governor Morrill became somewhat confused, and when he said: "The Keeley cure has saved the government $700,000," the veterans in the court room hooted and Representative Warner threatened to clear the room. Surgeon D. C. Jones testified that Miers Powell was annoying and refused to obey the hospital rules and Wiat he placed him in the restraint waid on his own responsibility. The attorney exhibited a written order from Governor Smith ordering Powell transferred, and Jones was badly confused. Dr. Jones was the last witness of the day.
