New York, Feb. 3.- New York society and many members of the fashionabíe circles of other cities, to the number of several thousand, danced for charlty's sake at the Metropolitan Opera house Tuesday nlgbt. The occasion was the of the annual charity ball and it provecí to be in eveiy way worthy oí its social and kiridly traditions. The only decorations, as in past years, was the single word "Charity" in incandescent lights back of the stage. As a result of the affair a good many thousands of dollars will be available for distribution among the poor. Chauncey M. Depew, with Mrs. William H. Kingsland on nis arm, led the grand march.
