H is unlike many a play Tnnc'i ai the heroine is already married before the curtain rises; but at the end. even if this is not lrap year, there's matchmaking whieb is as' mirth-provokina a piece of business as one ever sees eitlier on or off the stagt Eily O'Connor. the Oolleen Bawn, is t!ie danghter of the old r'opé maker cf Garry Owen and the wife of Hordress Cregan, who keeps the marriage a I . The Gregan estáte is deeply ind and will be lost unless a moftge held by one Corrigan can Ijc paid olT. Old Mrs. Cregan, who is a wiáow, is lialf inclined to marry the mortgage but is dissiiüded by her son Hordresa ?he wants Hordress to marry the rich Anne Chute and therebv stave off fortune. Hordress nightly visita his young wife aeross the lake, his onlj companion being his falthful friend Dauny Mann, the boatinan. Danny who realizes what is to happen the ('re gans if Ilordress can not marry Anne Chute, proposes that Ilardress give him his glove as a token that he (Danny) should put the Colleen out of the way. Ilordress' marriage with Miss Chute would then be in easy matter. Hordre83 is horrified at the idea, hut his mother obtaius the desired glove and tella Danny to do as he pleases. In attempting to drown the Colleen Bawn at night, far out to sea, ainid the rocks, Danny is shot by Myles-nft-Copplean and Jiily is accidentally rescued f rom a watery grave. This makes a most realistic bic of acting. For ten daya she is coneealed in the cottage of Mvles. iVJiss Chute is not in love with Hordress, bat rather with Mr. Daly. She íinds a letter written by the Colleen to her husuand, but thinks it is intended for Daly and that it is therefore Daly who visits the cottage nightly, She tries to niake Daly confesa as niucïi, but iinally eonclndes that his eradle was made out of a witness box. Eily is thought to be dead and a marriage is arranged between Hordress and Miss Chute, much to the disgust of the former. Corrigan who has overheanl Daimy's story, has Hordress arrested for murder just as the guests are asseinbling for the wedding. At this moment the Colleen Bawn is produced and lïordress and liis wife are overjoyed at seeing one another again. But Miss Chute, just think of it. has gone t the trouble of getting a veil and a u'.'(kl;ng dress aad proposes to marry someone She is gratified by the oblig"ing Mr. Daly. The FíH-hurds Murtler Case.
