Mrs. Adali Oase who was taking care of Mrs. Geo. J. Haeussler, has returned to 'l'ecuinseh. Miss Mamie Haag has returned to Jackson, after spending the winter with relatives here. Papers received from Witohita, Kas., show the universal esteem the people of that place luid for the late Joseph 15. McMahon. 'l'he funeral, conducted by the Masonic fraternity, was one oi largest ever held in that city. A class of 15 was confirmed Sunda at the (ierman Lutheran chureb and the church was nicely decorated with plants and llowers in hónor of the occasion. Hev. Schoettle delivered the address to the large congregation iiresent. ïhe Misses Hattie Osborn and Leila Keeler had started for town Saturday afternoon, and while nearing Jo'e Davidter'8, their borse became frightened at a cow and ran away. The buggy was upset and the ladies thrown out, fortunately escaping serioua injury. The horse ran into a fence where he was stopped, but not until the busgy had been badly damaged. The first meeting of the common council was held Monday evening, anc the annual appointments made an conlirnied, with the exception of villag marshal, which appointment was nó confirmed. Mrs. Deborah Fountain, who live alone, near the Union school building had been feeling rather unwell part o: last week, and Friday evening she cam up town to get somethinír to relieve her suftering, complaining of a severe pain in her chest. he started home about 8 o'clock. and when near Mis Swift's millinery shop, feit worse and went in to rest a few minutes, .she gradually grew worse, and after a shqr time lite was extinct. Dr. Conklin was suramoned and pronounced the cause of death due to heart failure The body was removed to her late resi dence and relatives notified. she was 74 years of age. Two sons, both in California, survive her, and Mrs. Cole, of Tecumseh, Miss Sarah Underhill and Solomon Underhill, of Chicago, sisters and brother of deceased, attended the funeral Tuesday. Jacob Ilauser was returning f rom Chelsea late Aíonday evening with a load of empty beer k-gs.and had fallen asleep. When near the Kowe's corners' church, three miles north of town, the h irses beeame frightened. throwing J;ike olï the wagon. They ran rapidly homewards. and when reaching the corner of Wurster Bros., the wagon was overturned and broken, leaving only the front axle attached to the horses. They ran up the street at a lively gait, Uirned at the City Hotel, and ran down the sidewalk into (eorge Nisle's yard, and up against the house, demolis'hing the porch and breaking through a door. The ooeup mts of the house were badly frightened, but hastened to the rescue of the horses, which. althougb not seriously injured, were badly cut and bruised, and are pretty lame from the evening's mad experience. CHELSEA CHAT. A. Steger was in Ilowell last Tues day on business. Miss May Shunk of Ypsilanti, visited her aunt Mrs. Ulover, last Sunday. Mrs. ('has. .Steinbach visited relatives in Ann Arbor last Wednesday. The young men of the town will give in Kaster ball on Mondav eve., April 9. Mr. and .Mrs. Win. Denman visited 'riends in Charlotte, the lirst of this veek. Dr. Wm. A. Conlon has taken charge of the Dr. Fessenden dental parlors in Jetroit. Mr. "h;is. Steinbach and sister, Mrs. !eo. Wackenhnt, were in Detroit last I'uesday. Milo Opdike has purchaed an outfit and is at work gathering cream for the Graas Lake Creamery. One of the gasoline tanks at the Stove Works exploded last Tuesday but the fire was put out without damage. Mark Lowry has perfected the organization of the business men of this place, into a stoek company to opérate a inilk condenser. I hey propose to use a systein of plain condensing. and it will be theonly concern of tlie kind between New York and St. Louis. The product of the factory will be used in tlic manufacture of ice cream and con-' fectionery. A building will soon be erected on a vacant lot near G. P. Glaziers Dairy farm. Mr. Hugh Sherry, for thirty-five years proprietor of a harness-shop in thw rillage, died last Saturdav morning. Mr. Sherry was born in Ireland abont tv yeara ugo. and was brought by his párente to ('amula, from whence he moved to Chelsea. His was an honorable and succpssful career and his loss will be severely feit in business circles. The funeral services were conducted from st. Mary's church hy the Rev. Fr. idine, Monday morning. AVilliam Colé, who has been in Detroit the past week, returned home to Saline Friday, bringing with him a wife. Mr. ir. Thorne, living a mile from town, died last Friday and was buried at Willis, Kev. T. B. Leith oüiciating. The new village council at their meeting appointed Mage Wallace street commissionter and Fred Jerry marshal. Died, at his residenee, one mile nortli of this village, ïhursday, April 8. Charles Hicks, of consnmption, ;iged 60 years. Jlr. Hicks contracted the dread desease while a soldier in the late war. He was a memberof the G. A. R. post and a man beloved by all who knew him, was a kind father and good neighbor. Funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the house. Rev. Mr. Stonix ofiiciated. G. A.
