Four men at work on the Main Street sewer were overeóme by gas tomes Tuesday afternoon and hid to be hauled to the surta ce and worked over before they were able to walk. One of the men, Rudolph ( ; ca C, a masón" residing on I'ouliac si net, was so seriously affected iltat he was taken to nis home in Dieter le'S ambulance. It seoms that te went down into the newly constructed man-hole at the corner of A'nn streot and was there pro,strated by the fumes of gas which had coüected in the hole. ]üs fellow workmen raisd him from the niaii-hole and stretohed htm out on the eourt house lawn. For 20 minutes they worked over him and when he arrived at his home, he was much tetier. The other thiee men were uot so seriously orereome and were abou again in a short time. Contracto Schnoider ordered all the men to qui at about half past 1. It is said that leaking gas pipes ar the cause of the diiliculty. The. ga has sáturated tlie ground untií' it i black in some places. The dliches viiueh have to be sunk 17 feet bdov the street level, become filled wit gas oozing from the ground -with th dangerous consequences seen yestei ilay.
