Theo, asrain, the requirement that the subjects of the essays pertain to some matter of loc.il hisrtory will locallze the efforts, m 1 doubtless brlng out many interestiug reminiseences of the settlement of Wasliti'iiaw county. Every school in the county should be represented by oue or more contestans. It will do the school good and serve to stimulate an interest in a useful edueatioual work. All it costs is the effort of preparing the essays. CONDITIONS. The conditions of this '.'ontest are as follows: The contestant must be a pupila below the ninth grade in one of the schools oí Washtenaw county outside of the cities oí Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. The essay must eontain not loss tlian 2."r() nor more than 300 w, ii ds. It must hc on some subject pertaining to local history. It must be eertifled to by Hip teacher of üie school in which the contestant is a pupil. rhe Firsi Prtze vrill be $5.00 casli; the Second, $3.00; the Tiiinl. $2.00. All who t.ikc part in the eontest will receive a year's suiwcription to The Democrat. All of the essays of sutticient iiH'rit will be published in The Democrat in the order oL their tr.erit.
