The regular December meeting or the board of University regenta wrts held here Wednesday. Presidmt Kutchins read his annual report and the board ordered 15,000 copies printed for distribution. Treasurer Soule reportad the ceipts tor the year as ioliows: rom the state for curreni expenses, $137,410.18.; froin the state by special appropriation, $60,000; earnlngs and miscellameous sourees, $199,939.48. The disbursements during the year have been $421,635.73. Prof. F. N. Scott presented the repart of a comtnittee appointed to formúlate a plan whereby the news of the University may be circulated among ■the country aewspapers througrhout the state. The committee recouimended that sonie memtoer of the litcrary faculty be appointed to organize a bureau of University news and to be known as University editor; that the Alumni News be made the official crgan of the üniversity, and that a part of its space be nnder the supervisión of the Üniversity editor; and flnally, that a bulletin ot news letter be issued every other week for disrribution by mail to the various newspapers of the state. The Alumni sooiation offered to assume me exppnse of printing and pastage, and the board voted $100 to start the plan goïng. Prof. Scott, of the English departtnent, was appointed University editor. He hopes that eventually the work of gatheriug and editing the news will be assumed by th$ department of Bnglish composition. In executlve session during the afternoon and evening the regent deeided to cali the women's gymnasium the Barbour gymnasium, as a compliment to the Hon. Lev! L. Barbour, of Detroit, whose term of office as regont expired this month. Regent Barbour has been, one of the foremost benefactors to the gymnasium as well as a most efficiënt regent, and the board takes this mebhod of doing him honor. They also decided to Dame the audience room in the tornen'? building Hebard hall, o. honor oí exKegent Charles Hebard, oL Pequaming, whose term of office expired in 1895, and who gave $10,000 towards the building. The hall is on the Uiird story and will. sefli. 900 people. A vote of thankswas tendered Hoi. Orlando M. Barnes, of Lansing, for a gift to the University of thirty-seven volumes of reporta of .the cientific expedition whirh aceompanied the French to Egypt unde-r .Napoleon in 1798. This gift was made in 1894, with the undepstanding that the narne of the donor be witliheld. This.proliibition no longor exists and the vore was given. Miss E.stolle M. Hnk-omb, . Florence E.
