The farmera living alom; the Detroit & Saline plank road have been holding a series oí meetings lately in whieh iht owners oï fche franchise were badly soored for the condition of the road. Seeretary John A. Bussell, of the 'Detroit, rpsilanü & Ann Arbor road, was seen Prlday ard ma. ie the following statement to the Detroit Tribune: -The faet of the matter is that people living along the country roads seek the Detroit & 'Saline plank rond to Detroit, Meh provea tliat same of the statenents made by the agitators are not correct. Durtng the past 11 years the receipts have been about $110,000, and oí this amount over $104,000 has been spont in roalirtaip.ing the road. It will be Unís seen that there has not been auy greit amount of dividends. and that the patrons using the road have reeeived tlie benefit of every oent paul iu. "The great trouble with the road. and with all ï-.iads otf tliis kind, is that it needs dralning. Our com-pany will assuTue charge of the plank road April 1 and it will bö made mie of the best in the country. J. D. Hawks already has prepared plans to make the road one that will be free fro.n mud in winter and f rom dust in sumn.er. The toll houses will be flxed up and will do doublé -duty as stations íind toll houses. They will be beautified with flower beds around theiii. Ín faet, the entire rond will be so íiailed that it will attmct settlers to erect dwellings along its entire leugtli.
