Mrs. Eliza R. Sunderland entertained the Ladies' Union at her residence on N. Stilte Street Wednesray afternoon, and afforded the members and invited guests an intellectual and social treat. Mrs. Prof. Reighard read a paper entitled "A Visit to Frieberg," which in reality took every listener on a trip to that renowned Germán city, and Mrs. Jordán gave a talk on "A Visit tr, an Areadian Settlement in America," which proved equally as novel and entertaining. The "settlement" Mrs. Jordan depicted is located near the city of New Orleans and is composed of some peculiar people who Uve in a little world of their own. After the literary program, a collation of coffee and cake was served. Among tiiose present were Mrs. Pettee, Mrs. Jordán, Mrs. Reighard, E. Cora DePuy, Mrs. O. E. Butterfleld, Mrs. Oswald, Mrs. Finney, Mrs. Hunter, and many others. After refreshments, the guests were afforded an opportunity to inspect many of the rare and beautiful souvenirs which Dr: and Mrs. Sunderland brought home fnmi their trip abroad, and all present nut only enjoyed the time, but fèlt that the afternoon had been an intellectual treat.
