Independence, Mo., April 7. - President Joseph Smith, son of the great Hormon prophet, who is said to have found the golden plates in the New York mountain and translated irom them the Book of Mormon, presided today at the opening of the annual conference of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The annual conference is the supreme lawmaking hody of this church and to It come all appeals, and by it are appointed the ministers of the denominatiou. There is au unusually large numher of delegates present, many coming from a great distance, mainly with the view of aiding in the adoption or defeat of the proposition, which, it is expected, will be introduced at an early session, looking to the removal of the headquarters of the church from Lamoni, Iowa, to this place.
