ïast year s cotton erop amounted to 8,532,705 bales, says the Philadelphia Record, apportioned to these statesAlabama, 833,789; Arkansas, 605 643' Florida, 48,730; Georgia, 1,299 Indian territory, 87,705; Kansas, 61; Kentucky, 414; Louisiana, 567,251; Mississippi, 1,201,000; Missouri, 24,119; North Carolina, 521,795; Oklahoma, 35 251South Carolina, 936,463; Tënnessee 236,781; Texas, 2,122,701; Utah, 123 and Virginia, 11,539. A decade ago only G per cent of the erop, then 2,000,000 bales less, was ustd in these states, whereas now the percentage has nearly doubled, 11 per cent being the figures for the year jast ended. There are 402 milis, operatiag 3,344,327 spindles. The Sea islaad product, 104,368, was the largest ever grown, and its value . was $6,000,958, au average of 16.58 cents per pound, while that of the uplands is estlmated at $285,810,606, an average per pound of 6.65 cents. The average was 23,273,269; the number of balea raised, 8,552,705, an average yield per acre of .37 of a bale. The soil and ciimate of Texas has been found better ads.pted to the cultivation of Egyptian cotton than are the fertile Nile lands, and the cotton produced frora thé Egyptian seeds i& pronounced stronger than the native Egyptian.
