Mr. J. B. Johnson has unforlunately found it necessary to withdraw fruin the faculty of the sumraer school, but the University has been fortúnate in securing in his place Professor W. H. Munson, of Hillsdale. Professor Munson has had long experience as a te;u iiei, and has built up a flourishing department of biology at Hilsdale College. He will be assisted by Miss F. E. Llv.isdon, instructor in zoology in the Unii i y . Three courses will be offered. There will Ín-, first, a course in general zoulogy, in which a study will be made of typical species of anímala with referto structure, function, developmtnt and relationship. A seord cou which roay be elected by University sHulents as a prerequisite for the advanced vertébrate work, will be an investigation into the structure and deiment of the frog as a typical vertébrate. In addition two courses will be offered, one designed especially for those who intend to teach the subject, or who are already teaching it, although attention will be givert to the needs of teachers in the other coui also. In the teachers' coi rse the dent will have an opportunity to do field and laboratory work in cullecting and identifying specimens of the inore important groups of animáis to be found in the vicinity of Arin Arbor. It is expected that field trips will be made Saturday mornings and at such other times as may be arranged. There will also be an opportunity to study methods of collecting, killing, ving and preparing for micresstudy those farms most oornmonly used in the laboratory. It is important to note that lab'oartoiy work is made a principal feature of all tnc coursc.
