Wednesday Mrs. Chas. Freeman received a letter from her son, Will p'reeman, of Troop F, Rough Riders. He said that they embarked for Cuba June 22 and the next day witnessed the bombardment at Santiago. Before the could land they were oompelled to g 30 miles up the coast. On Friday the marched towards Santiago, Troop L be Ing in the front and Troop F following them. Fr several hours they marchec on when suddenly they found them selves in a heavy firing from both sides. Two hours they fought Jike demons, and with 560 men repulsed 4,000 Spaniards, who were entrenched. He says that he had many narrow escapes and the man at his side was shot down. While lying there he gave Preeman ammunition out of his belt, who shnt over 100 rounds, so that his gun was sa hot that he could hardly hold it. The letter waa written twelve miles {rom Santiago. After the battle he went to the rear and helped to take care of the wounded. Freeman was wounded in last Friday's engagement, but not severely.
