It was the Yosemite which alone forced the Spanish steamer Antonio López ashore near San Juan while she was to convoy supplies to thc SpaniarJs, and drove the Spanish warships Isabel II., Concha and Alphonso XII. into the harbor when they carne out to rescue the Antonio López. The engagement lasted three hours, the San Juan forts joining in the flnng on the American ships. The Yosemite, although she is unarmored, headed straight for the Spanish ships at a critical stage of the engagement. They became frightened and turned and ran back to the shelter of the harbor. The Yosemite then turned back and destroyed the Antonio López. The Yosemite will purchase coal from local dealers.
