About four weeks ago Wm. Jolina an.l Miobael Clark, sometiuies known as Michael Sullivan canvassed the city for orders forcoreets. In some cases prompt delivery was promised, in others, aftor a few weeks delay. The corsets bava not been delivered nor was there any inteution to duiver tbem. Johna and Clark futopted this method to enable tlietn to enter residences, look the grounds over witb the view of theft and settlo upon what tlx'y belioved the nafest places (o enter and ut the same time the most valuable goods to steal. Nothing was missed from ïesidences until Tuesdny of last week. Ou tl.at áaj E. A. Thomas, a student of North üniversity Avenue lost an overcont ; Prof. VVinchell's residence was eutered and two overcoats and a hat removed ; Miss Knowlton daiighter of Mr. E. J. Knowlton missed a seal skin cup; Win Pease submitted to the loss of two overcoata; Frank E. Young a like number. White E. A. Thoiuüs was reconnting his loss to the pólice, Shoriff C;ise came along. The latter official notified Superintendent of pólice Rogers of Detroit, the following raorning, giving bim a description of the articles stolen. Shadowing the thieves began, and one perinitted to pawn an overcoat for the purpose of traoking them to their homes. This scheme proved effectual. Upon entering the rooms there was to be observed n, misoollancoua lot of wearing apparel.coniprising over and nnrlprcoat 'ïats and caps in procesa of packing for Buffalo for disposal. Johns and Clurk were seized, information of which being conveyed to Sheriff Case, deputy-sheriff Warren proceeded to Detroit and ruturned with them and a portion of their plunder. Prof. Wiuobell identifying lis property entered complaint, a warrant was issued and Johns and Clark were arraigned before Justice Frueauff who held them for examination Dec. 8. t is believed the gang comprised more han the above.
