Hithcock haa retnruod from a visit to fiieuds iii Jackson and Branoh Counties. - Miss Libbie Thompson lias received intelligenoe of the death of her cousin in Manchester, Mr. Stevens, and has gone to attend his funeral. - The school was closed Thursday of tbil week, as the teachers Mr. mid Mrs. Marsh trote cil?od away to attend the funeral of a friend at Saline. - Tho cause of temporáneo is being somewhat revived in thü place, the ministers are taking hold of the work. Mrs. Boice lectured in the M. E. ctiurch this week. J. Murray will lucture here Friday of noxt week. - A young child of James McMullen, who resides about two miles south of this place, being tied in a chair boside the stove last Wednesday, pitched forwardinto thocoalsand hot ashes burnod its face and hands, breathingthe hot air and died in twonty-four honra. - Mr. R. Milan, Feb. 17. - Charles Canfield is very low with consumption. - David Jennings has put up a largo ice-house in the rear of A. Hardy's store. - C H. Kolsey & Co. have put up their supply of ice, tho blocks being 5 inches in thiekness. - A teruperance auction social was held at the residence of William Whaley on Feb. 13th. -The Brick & Tilo Co. of this place have their factory rfiady for the roof, the walls being oompleted ; the building is 25 by 62 feet, with a boiler room attached. - F. C. Howard and E F. Hardy havo bought the Whiting property on the corner opposi te Ayre's hotel at $1,400; they intend to start in business here. We understand in produce. - Georgo and Amo3 Taylor have put up a stationary liorae-power, forsupplying the maohinery of their foundry. The power heretofore ha3 been taken froiu S. Andrua' planing mili. -A re-nnion of the sons of Harmon Allen was held at the residence of liosooe Allen on February 12th, at which a beautiful gold-headed cane Was presented to Harmon Allen by bis sons. - The People, vs. Bird Gould f or drunkenoss, was tried before JusticeRainey on Feb. 14th. resulting in the acqmttal of Gould, on account of insufficient ironclad testimony required in such cases. - Charlea Crittondeii ïiad one oï hi$ fingers severed on tho 14th, by a rope, with which he wasleadinga coltbelonging to Mr. Ayres; the colt, the rope, and the liqnor, was the immediate cause of the accident.
