In pursuance of a notice widely circulated through the presa and by circular, delegates representing the various temperance societies in this congressiona) district met in the opera house on Wednesday, organizing by the elec;ion of Judge R. E. Phinney of Monroe, President, C. E. Conley of Tecumseh, E. P. Allen of Ypsilanti, G. W. Hall of Saline, A. II. Lowry of Adrián, J. F. 3herwood of Wheatland, Mrs. J. C. Rowley of Adrián, Vice-Presidents, and D. B. Taylor of Chelsea, Secretary. The object of the meeting was to organize in behalf of a constitutional amendment providing for submission to the people the question, "Sliall the sale of liquors be prohibited in this state." A lengthy platform, which we havo not space to give, was adopted. The following resoiution, embodying the intent of the gathering, was, after a prolonged discussion and rejection of an amendment prohibiting use of wine for communion purposes, and strenuously advocated, was adopted: Resolved, That we recommend to all temperance men to use theix influence to secure candidatos to the next legislature who ave known to be in favor of submitting to the people an amendment to the constitution enwxely interdicting tlie tratlic in spirituous liquors.
