Jacobs has a new wire sign. - Patriok Sexton lost a valuable cow by the cars last week. -The street sprinkler began its summer campaign Monday. - A few Dexterites attended the hop at Ann Arbor Friday evening. -The ülanine mili is undergoing the gaudy touches of the painten brush. -The M. E. church will give an excursión to Detroit and f arther the 26th mst. -The front of F. Jaeger's store is a fine exhibition of Mr. JouasoiTsskül as a painter. -Doublé screen doors are being placed ín some of our stores presenting a line appearance. -The M. E. ohurch is undorgoing repairs sueh as plastering, paiutüig and kalsomining. -Jas. R. Joyner has rented the Holloway house and tvill repair and occupy it as soon as possible. - Another photograph gallery is exuected in town to lócate over the dental rooms of S. L. Jenny. Harry Eogers foreman of the Dexter milis has fallen heir to about $7,000 by the demise of an auntin York state. -The Scio agent M. C. E. R. complains of certain parties who envious of his position are using foul means to obtain it. - By mistake we omitted the name of Dr. Ziegenfuss as rendering valuable services in the Eastou poisoning case last week. -The plug hattrade forl880 has been effectually ruined, as the craniuins of a few of our "nobs" are thus conspicuously adorned. - Glass ball shooüng is being reviveci among our local nimrods and a couple of matches are pending, and a sweepstake is talked of. -Frank II. Garrity. last week caused much joy to the happy fatlier and mother. - Thorp nn.l Bibbin'a Uncle Tom's Cabin, was the poorest of the kind that ever exliibited at Dexter, and were greeted willi an audienee of the same in size. - Mrs. Marïrten wife of Patrick Madden of this village died Thursday May 13. Funeral services at St. Jos. church Saturday. Her remains were deposited in the vault. - Tliere was a pleasant party at the residence of Mis. Murphy,Pextertownship Sunday evening. Among ths invited guests were Messrs. Taylor and Hackett of Detroit. -Mr. John Crampton w-ell known to all our young fellows, was married at Chicago Wednesday, and accompaniod by his bride were visiting his brother üeorge at Dexter this week. - L'rof . Lew Hoffman recei ved a letter from üardiner of Flint, barring him from the Trombone contest merely cause he easily gained the prize last year. This we think very unjust. The most despicable of all men t'i nearest to the missing link of Darwin's theory, is he who thrusts his brainless imputations and witty (?) allegations into the columns of a paper under-the screen of the prevarication " anonymous." - A special train will leave Dexter for Jacksoñ and return, Sunday, May 30th as decoration day will be ol servetl with great pomp at Jackson and Dexterites will have a chance to witnes;the proceedings; the Dexter cornet band is expected to attend. -Mr. George Vinkle handed us the photograph of a beautiful monument ordered of a western nrm. 11 wm oe cut from the fiiiest marble ; the heiglit 13 1-2 feet with a 5 feet base, and wil1, cost when completed 850. It will be placed in the Dexter ceinetery. - A small audience assembled at R. R. hall Sunday evening to listen to the thrilling eloquence of our amateur orators. The speeches were impromptu and well rëndered, though much reluctance was exhibited on the part of the speakers, the time of each varying from 1 1-2 to 10 minvites. - Thehorse and buggy stolen from Michael Connally were recovered last week by constable Volney II. Potter, who according to an item in the Detroit News giving a description of a corresponding rig, went to Detroit and found them to be the missing ones, and returned them to the delighted owner. - A man named Broka camo to town last we ik and too much bad whisky causee! him to lose his brains and equilibriura, and getttng tn his wagon tried to drive up the freight house platform and rolled wagon, horses and the much drunken man to the ground; assistancc eame and set thing riglits in ii ne to avoid a passing train. It was indeed a miracle how he escaped uninjured, the only injury he sustained being a flnancial one of $5 and costs when trotted up before Justice Gorman for drunkenness next morning.
