Milan Friends Turned Out To Greet Farrington

When He Returned

About 500 Took Part in the Demonstration of Sympathy for the Convicted Man

Milan, Mich., Feb. 7. - The people of Milan were not prepared for the verdict of manslaughter in the case of their fellow townsman, J. B. Farrington, who has been on trial at Adrian for the killing of his wife's lover, Jesse Hooker. As soon as the report was received at this place that he had been found guilty his friends got together and Dr. Emmet Pyle, Thomas Redman, Ed. A. Farrington, Warren Lewis, W. C. Reeves, and C. M. Blackmer went to Adrian and were on hand at the opening this morning prepared to furnish bail in any required amount. Mr. Farrington was admitted to bail in the sum of $5,000, and instructed to return to Adrian on March 17 to receive his sentence al the hands of the court.

He arrived at this place at 1:30 p. m. today, and although the day was cold and blustery fully 500 of the citizens of Milan and vicinity were on hand to meet him at the train, to assure him of the sincere friendship, sympathy, and esteem in which be was still held by them, notwithstanding the fact that a Jury had declared him guilty of a crime. The demonstration partook of the nature of a triumphant parade. Too few men is it given to see their friends stand by them when undergoing such an ordeal, and to his previous spotless record can this feeling alone be traced. Mr. Farrington has passed his entire life iii the vicinity of Milan and seemingly has no enemies.
