Chelsea. April 23.- The annual meeting of the Congregational churches of the Jackson Association opened in the Congregational church of this village yesterday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Many interestlng papers were listened to. The meeting will hold through today. Many distinguished divines are present from different parts of the state.

It has been a day of disasters for Chelsea firemen. The first call was about 10:30 and proved to be the barn of Robert Leach, adjacent to the railroad. From this it was communicated to the railroad property, including the section house, water tank and minor property. Several small fires in the vicinity were started from it, but were checked before much damage was done.

About 3:30 o'clock they were again called out, this time to the barn of A. C. Welch in the eastern part of the village. Origin unknown. Owing to the high wind which prevailed all day, the fire communicated to the marsh owned by Dr. G. W. Palmer and did much damage. This marsh comprises from 6 to 10 acres and is used principally for onion production. Although the firemen did good work in fighting the flames, they were unable to stay their progress owing to the gale.
