The funeral of Thos. D. Ryan, who died Thursday, April 24, at his home on Catherine street, was held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Thomas' church. The interment was in St. Thomas' cemetery.

Mr. Ryan was born in Ireland county of Sligo in 1847. When a very young boy he came to Canada with his parents, settling in London, Ont. There he received his education. In 1867 Mr. Ryan went into the wholesale and retail grocery business in Seaforth, Ont., with his brother-in-law, John Gilloran, as his partner. They were in business together twenty years, when reverses came and the partnership was dissolved.

While in Canada Mr. Ryan married Miss Sarah Kidd, daughter of the late Joseph Kidd, of Dublin, Ont. In 1887 Mr. Ryan left Canada and went to Saginaw and since then had been in commercial traveler for several prominent New York firms. Prior to his illness, he traveled for Bennett & Sloan, the coffee and tea dealers of New York.

Mr. Ryan removed to Ann Arbor from Saginaw ten years ago so that he might have advantages of the educational facilities here for his children.

He is survived by four sisters, a widow and six children--Joseph, May, Frank, Genevieve, Camilla, of this city, and Burt, of Chicago. Another daughter, Miss Sadie, was drowned at Whitmore Lake two years ago. Mr. grieved very much over her sad death and this may have hastened his death
