Ralph Chubb, the 14 years old son of Mr. George Chubb, of 209 S. State street, made a brave rescue of a drowning girl Tuesday afternoon.

The young woman was Miss Jessie Brown, daughter of H. J. Brown, the well known druggist. In company with Eddie Keating, Miss Brown yesterday went out canoeing. When near the railroad bridge at the northwestern limits of the city, the canoe was caught in a swift current. It tipped over and its occupants were thrown into the water. Neither Miss Brown nor her companion could swim. Young Mr. Chubb, who was on the bank, seeing the girl struggling in the water, jumped into the river and swam to her assistance. As she was going down for the third time, he grasped her around the waist and brought her safely to shore. Young Keating saved himself by holding onto the upturned canoe.
