rhe program at the Athcns Friday nijylit was short and sweet, lasHng just one liour and a half from the time the ciutain went up. The inusic was furnishnl by Miss Alüe Xice's orchestra, wiiicli la rapldly coming into favor. It was not so hot af tor all in the theatre, fr the fans up in the gallery on the bleaehers kopt movlng and a "tlark liouso-' ,.iid ;,vay wlth th(; heat. ing apparatus that ordinarily is used to light up. Mr. Mclniyre and Miss Campbell put on for a curtain ralser what miirht more flttlngly be callee! a side-splitter. "A New Fear's Dream" contains a good moral, which was strikingly impressod upon the audience by vaudeville and an excellent parody on grand opera given in oostume. The singing and acting of both performers were much admired and they received a curtain cali, a very unusual thing for au Ann Arbor audience to give. Anthony Andre, who will play iMephisto In Faust this year, succeeding Porter J. White, appeared in two readings, whieh called forth great applause. iHe is an aecomplished actor with reserve foree of great possiWlity, and shows a decided preferenee for the tragic In drama. Mr. Baxter's Singing and recitations were well received and showed him a promising actor of comedy parts. Jim Harkins carne In from the Fair Grounds on time, done up 1n the latest from a Parisian modiste and notwlthstandlng the array of metropolitan talent held his own. He was eneored. He always is, whether in drama or politics. Jim is a second termer every time. TJnfortunately not a snap-shot of him was taken. A most ludicrous farce, "Héctor," by Hageman, in which the leading roles were taken by Mr. Mclntyre and 'Miss Bessie Stafford, closed the entertainment. It was Miss Stafiford's initial appearance and her playlng was so proniising that her many friends were onthnsiastic in their praise of her. Mr. Melntyre's acting wflJS ajjuin excellent and duew íortSh hearjty applanse. The reappeaiar.ee of Miss Campbell in this plece pleased the hmise ti-emendonsly. She is not nnder salary in any cornpany, but an actress, like a poet, is born not made. Mr. Sleight, as Oscar, simply had the 'house at his mercy, for he had but to appear whein everybody laughed. Harry Brown and Nate Duffy played their parts very will. Mr. Koch made a Jew you could not discount and was, as a young lady said later, perfectly lovely. ....., in., i. civmiQ, jíj.. Mclutyre plnys for the coming year with the Flske company, opening In New York Sept. 1, Mr. Andre wlll play Mrpliisto n "Faust" and wlll reappear in Aun Arbor dnrlng the winter, Mr. Baxter will join the "Tidal Wave" company as one of the Ieading men, and the rest of the cast wlll join the "At Home" company, opening in Ann Arbor about college time.
