LABOR DAY CELEBRATIONS

Ann Arbor Went to Owosso and to Jackson

WON WORDS OF PRAISE

At Both Places-Painters and Decorators Won First Prize at Owosso

Nearly 500 representatives of Ann Arbor labor unions took in the excursion to Owosso Monday and took part in the Labor Day demonstration at that place.

The unions represented were the Painters and Decorators, the Plumbers, Tinners, Carpenters and Joiners, Bakers, Hod Carriers and Tenders. Cigar Makers, Electrical Workers, and they were joined by representatives of the Trades Council and the Painters of Ypsilanti.

The delegation was accompanied by Otto's Knights Templar and the Athens bands.

At Owosso the Ann Arbor delegation were given a royal welcome and if there were any keys to the city they must have been placed in their hands, as everything was open to them and no pains spared to make their visit enjoyable. The Owosso unions and the citizens generally, fairly outdid themselves to make their visitors feel that they were on their own heath and they were not strangers. In the parade the Ann Arbor unions were a prominent feature and were greeted with generous applause along the line of march. Not only did they win the favor of the multitude of spectators, but the Painters and Decorators were further honored by being given the prize as being the best appearing body of men in the line. A further honor gained by Ann Arbor was that of having the most comical outfit in the parade, this distinction being given to a very original burlesque automobile gotten up by Robert Gwinner and George Fischer.

The Ann Arbor base ball team accompanied the excursionists but did not cover itself with glory as they were defeated by the Owosso team by a score of 17 to 3.

ANN ARBOR AT JACKSON.

The Bricklayers and Masons Union went to Jackson and took part in the Labor Day parade there. They turned out thirty-nine strong and were given a good place in the big procession. The Jackson people said the Ann Arbor union had the best banner in the parade. They returned last evening well satisfied with the good time they had enjoyed.
