A Prohibited License Asked

City wants $3 a Day From a Lunch Wagon.

Located on Private Property--Recently Passed Ordinance of City Calls For It.

E. Hamel, who brought a fine lunch wagon here Wednesday evening, is in trouble. He rented a little plot of ground of Mrs. Bach, on Washington street, in the rear of St. James' store for $10 a month and installed his wagon on it. Then he visited the city attorney.

Mr. Sawyer informed him that he would have to pay $3 a day license for the privilege of selling hot lunches in his wagon located on private land. This is under the new ordinance recently passed.

Mr. Hamel says he is from Massachusetts, that he has put out over 200 wagons, that he was never before called upon to pay a license unless his wagon was upon the street. He isn't feeling very good about it, but it is not at all likely that he will pay $3 a day for the privilege of selling sandwiches and coffee, neither is it likely that he will go to the expense of a lawsuit with the city.
