Mr. Hammond carries the county for auditor general by 573, leading the rest of his colleagues, excepting, of course, Mr. Durand. The vote was: Powers, 3986; Hammond, 4559.
The entire democratic county ticket was elected by majorities as follows:
Sheriff--Gauntlett, 1451.
Clerk-Blum, 133.
Register of Deeds-Huston, 1014.
Treasurer–Braun, 855.
Prosecuting Attorney-Duffy, no opposition.

It will be Congressman Charles E. Townsend now. Only one democratic congressman was elected in Michigan and that was Alfred Lucking, of Detroit. Gen. Wood came the nearest to election of the defeated candidates but that was a long way off. Washtenaw was the only county in the district to give Durand or any other democrat a majority. The majorities are as follows:
Townsend. Wood
Jackson. 1443
Lenawee 854
Monroe ......600
Washtenaw................. 14
Wayne .......982

He carried Saginaw, where both he and Bliss live, although it went republican on the rest of the ticket. Only one democrat was elected to the state senate, Wm. P. Seullen, of Wayne. The democrats elected 11 members of the house, Washtenaw contributing two.
